Most of the songs we hear have a story behind them.

The backstory to this song was a prophetic word on a Sunday morning in 2023. One of our elders gave a prophetic word during a time of praise and worship. He said the Lord had spoken to him saying: --When you praise me, it glorifies me. Your worship is for me. But the truth of what you are singing is for you.--

The elder went on to explain that there is power in our praise. There is authority in proclaiming the word of God and the truth of God’s Word in our praise and in our worship. And it's right that we glorify God in this way and give him the praise that is his. But the power of our confession can also release faith, break chains, bondages and strongholds. Freedom often comes when we release faith, either sung or spoken, and proclaim the promises of God.

So after hearing that , I went home and wrote this song during my devotional time. This was in the midst of some terrible personal circumstances. There is, without doubt, something more powerful than merely knowing the 'great truths' of the bible. Having the opportunity to live by these verses also allows God to work in us and to transform us. 2021-2023 had been especially challenging for me and my family. I am deeply grateful for what I have learned in those desert places - places that I was longing to see the back of - because they helped shape me into who I am. By his grace, these experiences will make me more like the man he wants me to become.

And sometimes the miracles we need do indeed happen, and we find ourselves rejoicing in his healing, his deliverance or provision. Many times, I have raised a Hallelujah for all 3 of those miracles. Other times, the real miracle has been seeing what God taught me during those times of need. Maybe that is the greatest miracle I could ask for! Maybe, like me, you've known the good and the bad times that life often brings. Perhaps like me, you've enjoyed the wonderful blessing of God in one season, only to later experience a time of drought and famine in the next.

So often the power behind any well-known bible verse does not become meaningful until we suddenly need God to urgently answer prayer. It can be during these times where we begin to apply scripture with a degree of pertinence and desperation. We find a measure of freedom and a new, refreshing perspective. This reminds me of a well-known passage in the New Testament "Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).  The apostle Paul writes a letter to the Greek church in Thessaloniki, urging them to always be grateful to God, regardless of any situation they might face. So, this song celebrates the power of praise and describes how we can be transformed when we sing and declare the truths of God's Word.

-Maybe that is the greatest miracle I could ask for!
